How does ovolane® work?
The ovolane® sensor located in your vagina measures and records your temperature at intervals of 5 minutes while you are sleeping.
When you remove the sensor after waking up, the recorded data will be transferred to your smartphone automatically, where it will be evaluated to determine your basal temperature and your individual cycle profile.
What is the size of the sensor ?
The ovolane® sensor is not quite 47 mm long and has a diameter of 14 mm at its widest point.
How is the sensor to be used ?
The sensor is introduced vaginally exactly like a tampon and is retrieved with a thin replaceable (rubber band like) ribbon made of transparent and tear-proof silicone.
The silicone ribbon can be washed and disinfected.
Is the ovolane® sensor hygienically safe?
The ovolane® sensor consists of a special plastic designed for medical purposes that can be easily cleaned with conventional soap (pH-neutral) under cold water. The material can also be subjected to medical disinfecting agents, e.g. ethanol (70%) or desinfecting sprays made for human use.
For good hygiene, you should clean the sensor before inserting it and after removing it (before returning it to its storage box) as described above.
Does the ovolane® sensor emit any radiation?
No. – The sensor activates its Bluetooth® transmitter 15 minutes after removal at the earliest – i.e. outside the body – after it has completed a sufficient series of measurements and has cooled off below the temperature of 35.5 ° C.
As soon as the sensor was able to deliver the series of measurements to the mobile phone (at the latest after one hour), it switches off its transmitter in order to save battery power.
Can I feel the sensor inside my body ?
The ovolane® sensor is minimally heavier than a tampon and is made of a smooth, medical plastic.
In order for the sensor to be able to measure optimal temperature values, it should be inserted as deeply as a tampon, so that it can not be felt. Only very few users can even feel it during the first minutes after insertion.
When should I use the ovolane® sensor ?
The ovolane® sensor is inserted before the night rest (in case of shift work, before sleeping) and removed after waking up.
IMPORTANT:
Clean the ovolane® sensor thoroughly before each use with soap (pH-neutral) under cold water. – You can also disinfect the sensor with medical ethanol (70%) or appropriate sprays.
How often and how long should I use the sensor ?
Ovolane® determines the time of your ovulation. For this purpose, you always use the ovolane® sensor from day 1 after menstruation. Ovulation typically occurs approximately 7-12 days later. As soon as the ovolane® App signals that it has detected your ovulation, you can stop using the sensor until the end of the next period. At least until the beginning of the next period, you are not fertile.
Ovolane® will learn about your personal cycle over time and can then estimate the time of your ovulation in advance. For ovolane® to become acquainted with your cycle, it is helpful if you use the sensor during the first 2 to 3 cycles on all days outside menstruation.
In order for the sensor to make a sufficient number of useful measurements, it should always be worn for at least 4 hours, with a sleep phase of at least 3 hours.
Can I use the bathroom or have sex while I use ovolane® ?
To prevent losing the sensor, it should be removed before a toilet run and then reused for the rest of the night.
IMPORTANT:
Before sexual intercourse, the sensor must be removed, as there is a risk of injury to yourself and your partner. Afterwards, you should use the sensor for the rest of the night.
Clean the ovolane® sensor thoroughly before each use with soap (pH-neutral) under cold water. You can also disinfect the sensor with medical ethanol (70%) or appropriate sprays.
What should I do to transfer the temperature data to my SmartPhone ?
In order to transfer the measured temperature data to your smartphone, you have to remove the ovolane® sensor from your vagina and give it an opportunity to cool down to below 35.5 ° C – only then it will attempt to contact the ovolane® app. For the transmission to work, the smartphone must be switched on and be within range of the Bluetooth® radio (approx. 10m), preferably in the same room.
If the ovolane® sensor fails to contact the app within an hour, the ovolane® sensor will stop it’s efforts to contact the SmartPhone in order to preserve battery life, just to try the transfer again the next morning together with delivering the next series of measurements.
The ovolane® app acknowledges the receipt of a series of measurements by an acoustic signal. In the app’s calendar view, the basal temperature is displayed on the proper day – here you can also see your entire temperature profile of the night as a curve.
I work changing shifts, is ovolane® suitable for me ?
During normal nighttime sleep, body temperature is usually the most stable. If you have another regular sleep pattern (when working night shifts, for example) this is not a problem as long as every 24 hours a minimum of approximately 4 hours of sleep takes place. If regular sleep phases are not possible permanently, this can affect the accuracy of the app’s analysis and predictions.
My cycle is irregular, can I still use ovolane® ?
Yes, – ovolane® analyzes each new cycle and determines the date of ovulation (or whether you had ovulated at all during this cycle), regardless of the past. Past cycles are only evaluated for predictions. If your cycles are very irregular, this only affects the accuracy of the predictions.
Does the accuracy of the ovolane® sensor change over time ?
No. – The ovolane® sensor utilizes a new, very high-quality, patented precision temperature sensor – featuring a resolution of almost 0.01 ° C, factory-calibrated to 0.1 ° C. The temperature sensor is guaranteed to deliver accurate temperature values long term, even if the operating voltage of the battery decreases over the years.
What are the advantages of ovolane®?
To understand the advantages of ovolane®, first briefly remember the traditional approach to using the temperature method:
Usually you need:
An alarm clock that will wake you up daily at the same time from deep sleep, because it is then that the body core temperature is the most stable.
An accurate temperature thermometer, which you carefully insert for about 5 minutes after waking up – if possible without moving (this procedure is already a source of inaccuracy)
A sheet of graph paper and a pointed pencil, to accurately document the measured temperature value and to develop the cycle graph.
The relevant know-how for the evaluation of the cycle curve.
Time and leisure, to perform these actions carefully and consistently.
With ovolane®, you just insert the sensor for the nights rest and remove it in the morning after waking.
You do not need an alarm and you will not be woken up.
Instead of the wake-up temperature, your actual basal temperature, which is established while you have been sleeping for a few hours is automatically and accurately recorded by the ovolane® sensor.
The measurements are radioed to the ovolane® app on your mobile phone
and evaluated there. The app shows your cycle plainly and clearly.
All this is accomplished – fully automatic.
What distinguishes ovolane® from similar products?
There are very few products that can deliver results even close to the accuracy of ovolane®. Only two products are known to us at the present time.
Both products use – like ovolane® – a temperature sensor which is worn vaginally during sleep. However, both systems also require a special additional device for reading the sensor data.
One of these readout devices must be connected to a PC via a USB cable, on which software and drivers must be installed beforehand.
The readout device of the other system is separate and battery operated and has its own controls and a small display. The life of the sensor is given by 1 year only.
The special reading devices are sold as part of the total system or are rented in the context of multi-month or annual contracts. Apart from the fact that the separate read-out devices cause higher costs, the read-out does not work without additional expenditure and explicit attention. Mobility is also rather limited.
As a read-out device, ovolane® utilizes your own smartphone instead. You take immediate advantage from the optimal convenience, reliability and mobility of the application as well as constant access to your cycle data and – last but not least – the cost savings.
How often does the ovolane® sensor need to be charged ?
The the battery of the ovolane® sensor is not chargeable.
Many users enjoy good battery performance even in the 5th year of use. The battery life yielded depends on the individual method of use.
It is crucial that the ovolane® sensor is given the opportunity to transfer the new measurement series to the ovolane® app after each retrieval. If this does not succeed for some reason (e.g. incorrect Bluetooth® settings, flight mode, etc.), the ovolane® sensor will repeat its transmission attempts a few times before giving up, consuming a comparatively large amount of battery power in the process.
The guarantee period corresponds to the legal warranty of 2 years.
Is ovolane® a 'medical product' ?
ovolane® is a certified medical device of class IIa.
